a few stills from my short film made this year with Maïwenn Le borgne, Anaëlle Moreau, Alexia Provoost, Simon Taroni and Bruno Salamone.

I was in charge of defining the look of the film, rendering, compositing, developing scripts to increase productivity, lighting a few shots and rigging the man.

First screening on Canal + June 6, then Annecy !

I have learned maxscript in my free time this year (more precisely between December 24 and January 2) and it was well worth the time I've spent on it. If you have no idea of how scripting can help you in a production, well... You can do everything with scripts, much more than with max interface, and faster when it comes to doing the same thing repeatedly.

45 shots, 4 different sets of shaders, 12 render passes, 7 render files per scene, a lot of tests and different versions and no time for human errors. This is the perfect situation to write a script !

It simplifies the use of scene states, render elements, render settings, creates everything with a few clicks then saves render files and muster batch files to avoid loosing time. Other features : the ability to choose which passes to create and save, and the automatization of creating folders and setting the path for each render pass, based on the name and path of the shot, a customizable version number and the pass name.

It is meant to easily manage textures display and turn on/off smooth in the scene while transferring initial smooth values to "smooth at render".

Here is something I've been working on throughout this year with Maïwenn !!! Every part of it was awesome. We've managed to do everything together, from the first sketches to the editing, and there even are some parts of this production I couldn't tell who has done it. Hard work in a funny atmosphere, a perfect co-worker ! Initially, it was supposed to be some kind of animatic (many weeks of pre-production, half a week of production) but after a huge riot involving 50 students and a teacher against 1 teacher, we were able to go further than expected and finish this in time.

Last thursday, we had to display a year of work at Supinfocom in front of the headmaster, our teachers and our classmates. It was a close one but I've managed to finish and refine everything I wanted to. Happy! :) Everything but the glow is 3D-only

Here is my latest project, some kind of tribute to the guys I would like to work with in a few years.

Next step: refine some parts of the animation and animate the cord. I'll edit this post when I'm done with this.
I've tried to render it, learning Vanilla Pass manager and RPManager at the same time. Works great! RPM is by far the best (complex but intuitive and faster to deploy) and the evaluation license has less limitations but I've come across an annoying bug: the "Use RealPixel RGB Data" checkbox of the OpenEXR format keeps checking itself when I render, resulting in a solid black.

Jellyfish or not?

A rough for my coming super-underwater-3D-scene

I'm not sure the jellyfish will be part of the final image. I've put it here to balance the composition, add something to the middleground that could catch the eye, add a reminder to the blue of the right part and because it's a beautiful one! But on the other side, it doesn't quite fit in...

This work involved everything: script, storyboard, graphism, character design, layout, animation and editing.

Constraints: 54 sec, the music, a milk bottle cap having to be of importance in the script and visible throughout the animation, and characters (a minimum of 2) made of only threads, cables and wires.

For last year's 3rd trimester, the goal was to make a short film based on something cult, either from a movie, short movie or commercial. I've decided to pick something I like, even if not cult yet.

I made this short a year ago, having for theme "And your thoughts become reality". The constraint was to integrate compositing (could be cgi, drawing, anything...). Subtitles: Cooking, dishes, laundry, vacuum, trash - You can now pause him - New Interface - More human than ever.

And our last film subject for 2008, which was "Trasncended reportage" or how to convey the essence of a job. I've had the chance to enter this amazing chocolate factory in Lilles after calling them half a dozen times. Thanks again to Meert !

Here are the latest renders for this project! I'm not satisfied with the last image, because it doesn't catch the eye immediately... The goal of this exercise was to create a photorealistic coffee machine, then render it in a way that tells "Buy me !" (lighting, composition, etc... straight from 3d software, no post-prod)

Here are some other school works:

A portrait of Lionel Barrymore, as seen in "It's a Wonderful Life" (Frank Capra). He is one of my favorite actors. I still have to take care of the eyes and lips, and refine the nose

Some purely technical stuff:

I'm learning 3D software at school, we have to create a coffee machine. As I wanted to work on an uncommon one, I've picked a Lamborghini espresso machine. So far, I think I'm done with the modeling and shading. Lighting is still a challenge...

Last year school work: first 3D work, based on a photo of a still life we had to do earlier. It helped me learn composition basics and why "putting a light anywhere, arbitrarily" is not a good thing.
